Gin Score Calculator: rules and examples
Look at the complete hand before deciding. Calculate a Gin hand score from the knocker’s and defender’s final deadwood totals. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer. Keep the active rule in mind. Enter the knocker’s deadwood from 0 to 10. Zero means Gin. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer.
Fixed house bonuses of 25. It does not include line bonuses or a match-end bonus.
Build familiarity through play
Take a moment to read the table. Enter the defender’s deadwood after any legal layoffs; against Gin no layoff is allowed. Use another round to revisit a decision.
The goal to keep in mind
Calculate a Gin hand score from the knocker’s and defender’s final deadwood totals. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer. Treat this as a chance to practise one rule.
From the start of a round
- Enter the knocker’s deadwood from 0 to 10. Zero means Gin.
- Enter the defender’s deadwood after any legal layoffs; against Gin no layoff is allowed.
- Calculate the result. Gin scores 25 plus defender deadwood; an undercut scores 25 plus the difference.
- For an ordinary successful knock, the knocker scores only the positive difference.
